The SportsPlay Heavy Duty Bent Post Backstop 541-616 combines a substantial 4.5" O.D. steel gooseneck post with a cast-aluminum fan backboard, official-size Super Goal, and chain net for a complete outdoor basketball system.
The heavy-duty post uses 7-gauge RS40 zinc-flow-coated steel tubing and provides a 48" extension from the front of the post to the face of the backboard. A matching 48" ground bury creates the foundation for a permanent installation.
SportsPlay also uses a direct goal-to-post design that transfers forces placed on the rim through the horizontal steel post instead of relying on the backboard to carry those loads. For schools, parks, recreation centers, and other high-use facilities, this construction provides a strong combination of durability, court clearance, and long-term value.
Heavy-Duty Goal-to-Post Construction
At the center of the 541-616 is its 4.5" O.D. RS40 zinc-flow-coated steel post with a 7-gauge wall.
The post is formed into a bent gooseneck configuration that creates a 48" extension between the front of the pole and the face of the backboard. Its horizontal section connects directly through the backboard to the basketball rim.
This goal-to-post configuration is designed to transfer rim forces into the steel structure, reducing stress placed directly on the aluminum backboard during play.
Cast-Aluminum Board & Super Goal
The system includes SportsPlay's 542-600 cast-aluminum fan backboard with a 36" × 54" playing surface.
The board uses #319 aluminum construction with a minimum 3/16" playing-surface thickness, integral rear support ribs, and an overall thickness of 1⅜".
SportsPlay pairs the board with its 542-972 Super Goal & Chain Net. The official-size 18" rim uses two welded steel rings with additional rim supports for strength, while the lower ring is formed specifically to accept the included chain net.

Receiving Your Shipment

Missing Items & Concealed Damage
SportsPlay's current terms instruct customers to report missing components within 10 days of receipt.
Concealed freight damage should be reported immediately after discovery. SportsPlay states that freight claims for concealed damage will not be honored more than 14 days after delivery.
Because freight carriers may impose shorter reporting deadlines, we strongly recommend inspecting your shipment as soon as it arrives.
